After an incredibly stellar performance at the box office this weekend, there are already talks about a third Best Man movie.

The Best Man Holiday, Malcolm D. Lee’s sequel to 1999’s The Best Man, floored “analysts” who were surprised that black audiences would show up in theaters for a movie that didn’t star Tyler Perry or white supremacy.

From Deadline:

[Lee] is negotiating a deal with Universal to write, direct and produce another installment of the hit ensemble romantic comedy.Sean Daniel is also in talks to come back and produce another film through his The Sean Daniel Company shingle. No word yet on locking in the ensemble cast.

The film took $17m to make, but has already made over $30m. Of course, when you show movie execs the money, they want more.

While the buzz is going about a third film, Lee has to write it first. It took 14 years to come back with a sequel, but this one can happen much more quickly.

Thoughts on Best Man Holiday?

Should a third installment of the series be created?
