Babysitter’s ‘blame the black man’ robbery foiled by little girl who speaks up
It seems like whenever a crime takes place, a black man is in danger of being accused.
But an attempt to “blame the black neighbor” backfired on Wednesday after a little girl told the truth about who really committed the crime.
On Wednesday, June 18th, [4-year-old] Abby helped the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office crack a case that would make The Babysitter’s Club proud. “They told us to get out of the house ’cause they wanted to steal stuff,” Abby said.
Investigators say Abby’s 17-year-old babysitter orchestrated a false home invasion, along with her 16-year-old boyfriend and another male suspect. “That was really her being bad. She’s not a good babysitter,” Abby said.
Investigators say the babysitter made up a story about two armed black men breaking into the home. “The bad guys stole by kitty bank. They stole my iPod. They also stole my Xbox and my Wii,” Abby said.
The babysitter told investigators one of the suspects looked like the neighbor next door.
Neighbor Cody Oaks says cops handcuffed him and questioned him for several hours saying that “he fit the description of the suspect.” But it was Abby’s bravery that actually saved the man.
She simply said “It wasn’t the right skin color” and told investigators the suspects had white skin not black.
That’s when the babysitter confessed. The babysitter and her accomplices were all arrested. They could face charges of robbery, burglary and perjury. All of the stolen items were returned .
There we have it. Another black man blamed for a crime he didn’t commit. Kudos to this young child for speaking up.
