Friends and loved ones of Bakari Henderson are left shocked after the recent college grad was killed during a drunken brawl in Greece this weekend. They were especially surprised because no one close to him can even imagine him being anything other than a “peacemaker.”

Henderson, 22, was a recent graduate of the University of Austin and was in Greece with friends to take photos for his new clothing line, according to NPR.

“Bakari was not one to act aggressively like that,” said his friend, Travis Jenkins. “He was always the one who was the peacemaker.”

It’s still not clear how the fight started – some speculate it was a dispute over a drink being placed on the wrong table and some thing it stemmed from Henderson’s friends taking a picture with a waitress. However, everyone understands how things ended.

The cause of Henderson’s death has been ruled as severe trauma to the head. Ten people, including a Serbian-born bouncer, a Greek national and six Serbian tourists, were believed to have followed him outside of the bar before the incident turned physical. Eight of them have been arrested while two have been charged with murder, according to ABC News.

A GoFundMe page was started to get Henderson’s body back home to his family in the United States. As of Tuesday, it has raised more than $43,000.

The University of Arizona also released a statement regarding Henderson’s death:

“All of us at the University of Arizona are shocked and saddened by the loss of our recent graduate, Bakari Henderson,” the university’s president, Robert Robbins, said in the statement. “Our hearts and prayers are with his friends and family. I can only imagine the deep sense of loss they must be feeling at his untimely death. It is always a tragedy when a young life ends before it has really yet to begin.”

The aftermath of this tragedy is likely to last for the entirety of the trial, if not longer, as fingers are pointed in various directions and everyone tries to figure out how this could even happen.
