A few months ago, we reported that actress Gabrielle Union was suing BET Network due to a breach of her contract for the hit show Being Mary Jane. This week, it seems Union and BET have reached an agreement, news that is sure to please the show’s growing fan-base.

In the lawsuit filed in October, Union’s reps claimed that the network had originally agreed to film two seasons of 13 episodes each. However, lawyers said that the network then tried to combine all the seasons into a single season of 20 episodes. Union’s suit was for $3 million in damages.

In a statement to Deadline, BET had the following to say on the matter.

“BET Networks is pleased to announce that they have reached an amicable agreement with Gabrielle Union and look forward to sharing the new season of Being Mary Jane with its loyal fans beginning January 10, 2017.”

There is no word yet how this will affect the actions SAG-AFTRA has taken against BET on behalf of Union and her entire cast.

While no further details have been released, this is definitely great news for those who have followed the show since the pilot. It also signals that Black actresses may be starting to get the recognition they deserve given their overwhelming talent.
