Ben & Jerry’s, the ice cream company that’s brought joy and sugar to millions of people, has come out to support the Black Lives Matter movement in an effort to no longer be complicit.

“Systemic and institutionalized racism are the defining civil rights and social justice issues of our time,” the company said in a statement on their website. “We’ve come to understand that to be silent about the violence and threats to the lives and well-being of Black people is to be complicit in that violence and those threats.”

“There is good news: the first step in overcoming systemic racism and injustice is to simply understand and admit that there is a problem. It’s trying to understand the perspective of others whose experiences are different from our own.”

As expected, many people – *cough* Blue Lives Matter – came out to say they’ll no longer support Ben & Jerry’s because of their stance. But, on the other side, plenty more are currently plotting on heading to grocery stores across America and buying every carton they can find. So, it’s safe to say the company will be fine.

“All lives do matter. But all lives will not matter until Black lives matter,” the company said, among many other thought provoking statements.

Now you can feel a little less guilty when you eat an entire tub of Chocolate Fudge Brownie ice cream. As far as we’re concerned, you’re doing it for the cause.
