To date, Bill Cosby has been accused of drugging and raping more than 50 women over the span of his career. Due to statutes of limitations, many of those accusations will never be used in the court of law. However, he will go to trial for a 2004 assault of a former Temple University student to face three counts of felony aggravated indecent assault.

After a judge ruled that a scathing 2005 testimony where Cosby admitted to giving women drugs while intending to have sex with them, it appears that he and his team of lawyers aren’t as optimistic about his chances in trial.

According to Page Six, a source close to the Cosbys says that they’re considering taking a plea deal so that he doesn’t risk dying in prison.

“He and his family, including his wife, Camille, are adamant that Bill won’t be able to convince a jury to let him off,” said the source.

“They are hoping that the district attorney will feel as though he’s won with a plea deal and they’re thinking that the DA will consider Cosby’s age, his medical condition, the fact that he’s paid the victim on the case millions, and the fact that his career is over,” the source continued.

While Cosby has allegedly considered a guilty plea, he hopes to avoid going to prison altogether so that he can live out his twilight years around family. Unsurprisingly, this decision can be viewed as an admission of guilt but the anonymous source states that Cosby is adamant that it’s only a means to defend himself against a “fixed” attempt at targeting him because of his race and success.

“He truly believes that this prosecution is racially motivated. He’s rich, he’s famous and the world loved him. But if it were, say, a Robert Young or Fred MacMurray, if they were ever accused, America itself would not stand for it,” the source said.

Cosby’s legal team has made no comment about the supposed plea deal.
