BYP100 calls out major LGBT organizations using #TheseOrgsAintLoyal
Yesterday, BYP100 members noticed that major LGBT rights organizations seemingly forgot about the 50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act. They then began tweeting using the hashtag #TheseOrgsAintLoyal to call out organizations such as the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), GetEqual, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and others.
Because BYP100 uses a Black queer and feminist lens in our work, we couldn’t let such a historical day pass without making sure that our voices were heard. The response was overwhelming and evolved into a broader conversation about how mainstream organizations ignore our struggles and triumphs, even when it’s not that hard to give recognition.
After raising our voices, both HRC and GetEqual posted responses.
LGBTQ organizations said nothing about the #CivilRightsAct1964 today. But will first in my inbox asking for $5 tomorrow #theseorgsaintloyal

How do you claim to fight for justice for ALL LGBTQ people and not acknowledge the 50th anniversary of civil rights? #theseorgsaintloyal

My biggest point of contention is orgs that build upon the gains of #CivilRightsAct1964, but don’t acknowledge the people behind them
