‘Concussion’ Tells the Truth about NFL Medical Neglect

Through a long history of medical examinations and scientific data, the film Concussion directly links repeated violent brain trauma of NFL worker-athletes to dementia, depression, memory loss, mental illness and even suicide.  The truth is all laid out here.  Yes!  It’s an ugly reality, and a bit uncomfortable for most football fans, but truth is, the National Football League (NFL) is a billion dollar industry that doesn’t a give a damn about its player-employees.

What would It have been like if TV classics had casts of color?

Fuller House, a revival of Full House is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in 2016. Growing up, I loved Full House. At night, I imagined that I was a lost Tanner child. Now, I realize I was never destined to join the Tanner family tree—I didn’t fit any of the casting descriptions as a person of color.  Twenty years later, I’m wondering what popular shows like Full House would’ve been like if they included people of color?

Celia Cruz, ‘the Queen of Salsa’, receives Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award

Thirteen years after her death, Celia Cruz will be honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s award show.

“Each year, the Academy has the distinct privilege of honoring those who have greatly contributed to our industry and cultural heritage, and this year we have a gifted and brilliant group of honorees,” President/CEO of the Recording Academy Neil Portnow said according to The Latin Times. “Their exceptional accomplishments, contributions, and artistry will continue to influence and inspire generations to come.”

The 2016 Oscar nominations prove the Academy’s diversity problem

For the second year in a row, the annual Oscars ceremony will be unmistakably…white.

The Academy Award nominations were announced early Thursday morning. Snubs, no doubt, are expected. Upsets happen. But in the midst of growing criticism for Hollywood’s lack of diversity, it’s hard not seeing this year’s nominations as egregious erasure.

Elle’s Covers Are Great But Women of Color Need More from Media

Taraji P Henson and Viola Davis were featured on the covers of Elle’s Women of TV January issue.  Having Davis, Henson, along with Priyanka Chopra, another woman of color, is a step forward in representing diversity in magazines and television shows. However, this fight for equality in representation is nowhere near being finished.
