Pastor Withdraws From Inaugural Ceremony Over Anti-Gay Remarks

A pastor set to deliver the inaugural benediction at the Obama Inauguration this month has withdrawn over anti-gay remarks he made in the mid-90s.

Atlanta’s Pastor Louis Giglio once advocated for ex-gay therapy and spoken out against the “homosexual lifestyle.”


He also invoked a biblical passage often interpreted to require gay people to be executed and argued that homosexuals choose to be gay.

Congolese Tech Company Launching First ‘African-Designed’ Smart Phone and Tablet

Some young African entrepreneurs are getting ready to make their “African-designed” smart phone available.

VMK, a company based in the People’s Republic of the Congo, has a set of smart phones and tablets that are more affordable and specifically designed for Africans:

VMK announced the launch of the new Way-C tablet and Elikia smart phone earlier this week. To market the devices as authentically African, the budding tech company chose the names Way-C, which means “the light of the stars” and Elikia, which translates to “hope” in the local Lingala language.

BET Founder Bob Johnson Calls on President Obama to Address Black Unemployment

Robert Johnson, BET founder, billionaire, and head of RLJ enterprises, has once again called for President Obama to address black unemployment more directly.

Johnson is proposing a plan that would require corporations to interview qualified black candidates during the hiring process:

[Johnson] said the idea is patterned after the National Football League’s  Rooney Rule,which requires teams to interview minority candidates  seeking head-coaching or general manager jobs before making hiring  decisions.

Ben Jealous Awarded The Puffin/Nation Prize; Donating Portion of Prize Money to Troy Davis’ Nephew

Ben Jealous, president and CEO of the NAACP, was awarded The Puffin/Nation Prize for Creative Citizenship earlier this week.

$100,000 is included in the prize  that is given to someone who has “challenged the status quo through distinctive, courageous, imaginative, and socially responsible work of significance.”

Jealous has decided to give part of his money to Troy Davis’ nephew. Many will remember that Davis was executed in September of last year for the murder of a police office, a crime many say he did not commit.

Katt Williams Leads Police On Wild Chase — On A Tricycle

By now you’ve probably heard about all the trouble Katt Williams has been in recently.

There’s been gun charges, a burglary, and a shambolic performance in Oakland resulting in audience members actually filing a class action suit against the comedian.

Things got even weirder last Sunday in Sacramento, when Katt allegedly led police on a wild chase while riding a motorized tricycle.

Katt was caught speeding down the sidewalk at 35 mph, narrowly missing pedestrians.
