When he’s not analyzing professional basketball, Charles Barkley is prone to offer his two cents pertaining to issues in the black community – ranging from crime to protests. While there’s almost always disagreement regarding his criticisms, they do appear to come from a place of genuine concern.

This became more evident when he donated $2 million to two different historically black colleges this past week, according to The Undefeated.

Barkley donated $1 million to Alabama A&M University in his native state and Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta. This is starting to become a pattern after he donated $1 million to Morehouse College in 2015.

“This is a transformational gift to the institution and a true measure of Mr. Barkley’s commitment to advancing educational opportunities,” said Alabama A&M president Andrew Hugine Jr.

Clark Atlanta president Ronald A. Johnson said, “This gift reflects Charles Barkley’s tremendous heart and his desire to make a significant, positive and lasting difference in the lives of others.”
