Chyna Doll Dupree, a Black transgender woman, was shot and killed in New Orleans on Saturday night. Her body was found outside of a clothing store in New Orleans East after people nearby heard 8 to 10 gunshots.

Dupree, who was local to New Orleans, was reportedly a traveling drag performer. She had returned to celebrate Mardi Gras, according to Mic.

Friends and family have taken to Facebook to mourn her loss, ask for an end to the violence that lead to it and share videos of her performances.

“My heart breaks as this community must find a way to honor you in death and begin to move forward,” one person wrote. “The stage will never be the same!”

“I remember when I 1st met her at Bayou City,” said another. “She embraced me with a hug & from that day on, when I was out and she saw me, she would stop me and ask ‘Oh, so you’re not hugging the doll tonight?’ I can’t begin to say how much this hurts to know u were taken so tragically. My heart breaks as this community must find a way to honor you in death and begin to move forward.”

Dupree is the fifth transgender murder victim in 2017 already.
