According to the Chicago Sun-Times, First Lady Michelle Obama will attend the funeral of Hadiya Pendleton.

She’ll be accompanied by Valerie Jarret, senior adviser to the President, and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.

As we previously reported, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn will also attend the funeral, and is expected to say a few words.

15 year-old King College Prep student Hadiya Pendleton was gunned down in a Chicago park just one week after performing at President Obama’s inauguration.

The funeral will be held at the Greater Harvest Baptist Church, at 5121 State Street in Chicago at 9am.

Is this a good sign that the Obama Administration is taking the violence in Chicago seriously, or is it a gesture to quiet the clamor?

Will President Obama address the issue?
