According to a U.S. News & World Report ranking on the nation’s top 10 high schools, five Chicago Public High Schools have claimed spots on the state’s top 10 list.

Northside College Prep is the best high school in Illinois, and the 36th best public high school in the United States, according to a U.S. News & World Report ranking.

Here are the top 10 public high schools in Illinois (national ranking in parentheses):

Northside College Preparatory High School, Chicago (No. 36)

Walter Payton College Preparatory High School, Chicago (No. 49)

Jones College Prep, Chicago (No. 91)

Whitney M. Young Magnet High School, Chicago (No. 120)

Adlai E. Stevenson High School, Lincolshire (No. 150)

Deerfield High School, Deerfield (Bo. 217)

Hinsdale Central High School, Hinsdale (No. 254)

Lane Technical High School, Chicago (No. 258)

John Hersey High School, Arlington Heights (No. 274)

Highland Park High School, Highland Park (No. 293)

All five schools are selective enrollment schools where students have to test in.

U.S. News teamed up with the American Institutes for Research to analyze more than 31,200 public high schools in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. They considered student demographics and results on state exams and Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate tests.

Dallas’ School for the Talented and Gifted ranked number 1 as the country’s best high school, where students are required to take 11 Advanced Placement courses.

The top schools in the state are primarily housed on the north side of Chicago. Thoughts on the results?
