“There are only 2 rules in the Latino family — don’t marry somebody Black and don’t park in front of our house.”

That’s the joke George Lopez told at a recent show before a black woman sitting towards the front reportedly raised her middle finger towards him as a sign of her displeasure, according to TMZ.

“Sit your f**king a** down. I’m talking b***h. Sit your f**king a** down,” Lopez continued in his minute-long rant. “You paid to see a show. Sit your a** down. You can’t take a joke, you’re in the wrong motherf**king place.”

This kind of exchange isn’t uncommon in comedy. However, Lopez went nuclear, escalated the exchange and had the woman escorted out of the building. And it was all captured on video.

While the story first broke more than a day ago, it didn’t reach the eyes of Black Twitter until sometime last night. As a result, George Lopez’s name has been trending ever since as people debated the altercation.

On one side, people still feel that performing comedy gives someone license to say whatever they want without having to deal with any consequences. On the other, fans and detractors alike agree that racism and anti-Black sentiment should never be tolerated, even in a comedic space.
