Mohamen Mehdi Ouazanni, the actor who plays Satan in the History Channel’s Bible Series and President Barack Obama

The History Channel long ago became the cable network with the most ironic name, considering its programing consists mostly of “Pawn Starts” marathons. But now it seem like their taking another shot at “history” programing with their latest series “The Bible”. The $25,000 dollar question is, did anyone who wrote and produced, “The Bible” actually read the book? My guess is no, especially when you take into account their choice of Portuguese actor  Diogo Morgado as Jesus. He’s a far cry form the biblical description of Jesus having “hair like wool” and feet that looked like “burnished bronze”.

But that’s not all they got wrong according to Reverend Dr. Wil Gafney, Associate Professor of Hebrew and Old Testament at the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. Her recent article breaks down,”What the History Channel is Getting Wrong About the Bible“:

Not quite everything. Just geography, anthropology, archaeology, biblical studies, theology, race and ethnicity. Not all of them all of the time, but most of them, most of the time. The History Channel is engaging in a systematic whitewashing of the Bible, its characters and narratives, with a few telling exceptions. And this matters because of the way that race functions historically in the West, in the United States and in the Church and, how the construction of race in modernity is shaped by, in and, in response to the Scriptures.

I’m sure Satan resembling President Obama was just a coincidence as well. I mean it’s not like he’s on TV all the time and has been called over and over again by right wing nuts, “the Anti-Christ“. Isn’t it interesting how Jesus and all of the prophets are made as european as possible, despite what the scripture says, but Satan is cast as a dark skinned man? Looks like “The Bible” the History Channel used was the White Supremacy translation.
