Following the devastating shooting in Orlando that left 49 victims dead, most people are still looking for someone to blame. Some choose to blame terrorism, some mental illness and some gun laws. U.S. Senator John McCain decided to point to one specific person as the blame for the incident – President Barack Obama. Well, his policies, to be more precise.

“Barack Obama is directly responsible for it because when he pulled everybody out of Iraq, al Qaeda went to Syria, became ISIS, and ISIS is what it is today thanks to Barack Obama’s failures — utter failures, by pulling everybody out of Iraq, thinking that conflicts end just because you leave. So the responsibility for it lies with President Barack Obama and his failed policies,” McCain said, according to CNN.

However, after being challenged on the tone of his statement, and the implication that Obama is personally responsible for the shooting, McCain later clarified his statements and said that Obama’s policies and actions regarding terrorism are responsible.

“I misspoke,” said McCain. “I did not mean to imply that the President was personally responsible. I was referring to President Obama’s national security decisions, not the President himself. As I have said, President Obama’s decision to completely withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq in 2011 led to the rise of ISIL.”

While some choose to spend this moment finger like Donald Trump, it could really just be McCain still having a world of differences and negative opinions about the man he lost an election to 8 years ago.
