Celebrating a birthday, or anything, can be difficult after the loss of a loved one. It’s not difficult to imagine this being the case for Kevon Edwards, 17, who was in the car when a police officer fired a rifle and fatally shot his younger brother, Jordan. The story made national news and is being followed closely as there are more developments  Apparently, retired basketball players are no exception to hearing about the tragic incident.

To help Kevon find something worth celebrating, Kobe Bryant surprised the teen with gifts and a phone call for his birthday, according to TMZ.

The family’s attorney shared photos of Kevon with two pairs of signature sneakers and an autographed jersey that read, “To Kevon, Do epic things! God bless. Much love!”

Hopefully getting support from one of the greatest basketball players of all-time will be a highlight for Kevon that inspires him to “do epic things.”
