There have always been stories of people becoming seriously disillusioned when they reach a certain level of fame. Part of this may be because they’re living a level of privilege most of us will never reach. But that doesn’t justify being so out of touch that you’re convinced racism doesn’t exist. Unfortunately, that’s the predicament Lil Wayne has gotten himself into.

The famous rapper paid his longtime friend Skip Bayless a visit on his new show, Undisputed, on FOX Sports this Tuesday. While the interview included is current rift with Cash Money CEO Birdman and the announcement that he’s not officially retiring, Bayless took the time to bring everything around full circle and ask Wayne about his views on race.

“I don’t want to be bashed, because I don’t want to seem like I’m on the wrong side,” Wayne responded. “But I thought that was clearly a message that there was no such thing as racism.”

Apparently, Lil Wayne thinks – or, at least, once thought – that because white kids like his music enough to come to his shows that racism doesn’t exist. He even explained that he has never experienced racism in his entire life. This response was offered in reaction to the recent events surrounding Colin Kaepernick’s protest of the national anthem.

As you’d expect, Twitter let him have it for a while. And rightfully so.
