Lupe Fiasco Sheds Tears Over Lost Friends and Chicago Violence
Chicago emcee Lupe Fiasco recently sat down with MTV’s Rap Fix Live with Sway Calloway.
Upon watching his appearance on a 2006 taping of “My Block: Chicago,” Lupe became emotional, shedding tears for friends in the clip who have passed on, and mourning the continued violence that currently plagues the Windy City.
“‘It’s some of them dudes is dead,’ said a teary eyed Lupe. ‘You got dudes… Chicago’s the murder capital. The dudes in that video are in prison, a couple of fed cases, and then there’s ghosts. You see people that, that ain’t there. You just try to make it better. Come up out of it.’
He isn’t hyping up the violence going down in Chicago. On Monday, July 23, in the span of 15 minutes six people were shot in Chi-Town while the next day a mother of three was killed after gunmen opened fire near a park. But Fiasco was most distraught knowing the same people he saw in that vintage footage are still there.
‘Some of those kids ain’t going to make it outta there,’ said Fiasco. ‘You feel so helpless. There’s me, talking to me six years ago. You feel hopeless. It’s a terrible thing. And I see it everywhere.'”
