A man who says that he was forced by members of the NYPD to rap for his freedom has received a settlement from the city.

Quinshon Shingles, who goes by the stage name Sauce Da Boss, will be paid $7,500 for the incident.

From New York Daily News:

Shingles, 27, alleged that cops barged into an apartment without a warrant to question another man. The cops handcuffed Shingles and ordered him to bust out some “spits and bars” — and if they thought his rhyming was “hot” they would release him, according to the suit. The apartment’s tenant, Donyale Kitchens, also accepted a $4,000 settlement.

Shingles rapped for a minute to please the cops, who had raided his cousin’s home. Officers David Grieco and Joseph Patton had tricked the building’s super into giving them extra keys to the apartment.

The cops cuffed Shingles and ordered him to “spit some bars” after finding out he rapped. They said if the rhymes were “hot,” they’d release him.

The city, who admitted no wrongdoing in the settlement, denied the allegations in response to the suit last year, but ended up resolving the case without moving forward with sworn dispositions.

Is $7,500 enough payment for the injustice? Should Shingles receive more?
