Melissa Harris-Perry’s split with MSNBC a few weeks ago was highly publicized and had some clear parallels to an ugly breakup. Keeping with that metaphor, Harris-Perry recently appeared on ABC’s The View to provide some more detail about what led to her walking away from the network and her program.

Harris-Perry likened MSNBC reportedly giving her the cold shoulder to being in a relationship that’s started to end without the other person offering the courtesy of at least telling you that. By being taken off air while other personalities within the company being used, the Wake Forest professor felt that she was being clearly misused.

She also went further into refusing to be MSNBC’s “mammy” and the potential long-term benefits of her show being cancelled, such as more faces of color appearing on-air.
