The parents of a slain Missouri teenager whose death has sparked international protests is calling for community members to not hold protests on the day of his funeral.

Michael Brown, an 18-year-old unarmed black teen, was killed during a confrontation with Darren Wilson, a Ferguson, Missouri police officer.

From KSDK:

“Tomorrow, all is want is peace while my son is being laid to rest,” said Michael Brown Sr. as he addressed a crowd of supporters at a Peace Rally in St. Louis on Sunday afternoon.

Brown Sr. addressed a crowd at the same time members of Friendly Temple cleaning the church sanctuary and making last-minute funeral preparations for his son, 18-year-old Michael Brown.

A few miles away in the City of Ferguson, emotions were still high on busy Canfield Drive. People like Leya Salfina, who traveled from Miami, gathered to visit memorials growing on the street where the teenager was shot and killed by Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson two weeks ago.

“I want everybody to understand that it’s time to come together so that we can change this once and for all,” said Salfina as she kneeled down to say a prayer before one of the memorials to Brown.Thousands of people are expected to come together to eulogize Brown at the funeral service his family has decided to make public.”

Instead of protests, Brown’s family is requesting the community to hold a moment of silence in honor of his son.

Funeral services  are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, August 25 at Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church in St. Louis.

There will be two overflow rooms where the funeral service will be broadcast via live stream.
