Mike Tyson, once considered the most dangerous boxer in the world, opened up about parts of his past many fans were likely unaware of. In an interview with ESPN’s “E:60,” Tyson shared that he was molested as a child and that a man once grabbed him and tried to pull him into a building.

“Well I don’t like to talk about that, I like to keep that where it was in the past, but I was molested as a child,” Tyson said.

Going through such a traumatic event is sure to have long-lasting effects on anyone who goes through it, even someone like Tyson. However, the former champion tried to find a silver lining from it.

“It made me have to be tough for the world I lived in,” he said.

Tyson told Jeremy Schapp that this interview was his first time speaking about it publicly, but wouldn’t go into details of the experience and asked why Schapp kept asking for more information. However, he did speak about his past once before on a Sirius XM in 2014 when he said he escaped the man by running away.

“It was no one’s business to know, people just don’t talk about it because to some people they believe it’s demasculating them,” Tyson said.

Fortunately, Tyson was able to eventually learn that his experiences weren’t anything he should feel blame for or be ashamed of.
