One year ago today, Trayvon Martin was gunned down by George Zimmerman.

Martin, who was 17, was walking to his father’s house when Zimmerman spotted him, decided he looked suspicious, and subsequently killed him. Martin was unarmed.

CNN has posted an article detailing the aftermath of the shooting as well as things reader’s should know about the impending trial.

Martin has become a touchstone, shorthand for the black and brown youth who have died violently recently.

As we attempt to honor Martin’s life as well as continue to track the Zimmerman trial, we ask:

What has changed since Martin’s death? What needs to change?

Will sending George Zimmerman to jail be sufficient justice?

How can we work so that the deaths of youth like Martin, and the countless others whose names we don’t know, are not in vain?
