While whites make up just 42 percent of the U.S. population, they claim 69 percent of government benefits. But if you pay attention to conservative-run media outlets, it would appear that people of color benefit the most from government programs.

The Economix blog at the New York Times reportedthe following in February of last year:

Another finding of the study is that the distribution of benefits no longer aligns with the demography of poverty. African-Americans, who make up 22 percent of the poor, receive 14 percent of government benefits, close to their 12 percent population share.

White non-Hispanics, who make up 42 percent of the poor, receive 69 percent of government benefits – again, much closer to their 64 percent population share.

Republicans are seeking to cut these programs as part of the sequester or any other maneuver, but their issue won’t be with people of color, but with their own base.

More reports like this one need to be presented, and perhaps negative stigmas about Blacks can be eradicated.
