‘Sing Sing’ (2024) starring Oscar-nominated actor Colman Domingo will be the first film released simultaneously in 45 states to individuals incarcerated with access to Edovo tablets.

The film is also produced by Domingo who endorsed — as the top-actor on the call sheet — addressing wage-disparities by ensuring the entire cast and crew would receive the same wages. The film is comprised mostly of formerly incarcerated men with little to no prior on-screen experience. Majority of the cast were former alumni of the Rehabilitation Through the Arts (RTA) program, the organization which most of the movie centers around.

“After A24 acquired Sing Sing at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2023, the indie studio held their premiere inside the Sing Sing Correctional Facility in Ossining, N. Y. in June and screened it for an audience of incarcerated men at the San Quentin Film Festival in California, the first film festival ever held inside a U.S. prison, in October,” writes Rebecca Keegan.

‘Sing Sing’ was widely released this past weekend on January 17th, 2025. This article is a part of our REPURPOSE series, highlighting black youth and culture throughout the country.
