While wearing a shirt that read “FLINT LIVES MATTER,” Snoop Dogg met with Mayor Karen Weaver during a water drive this past weekend to discuss the current water crisis. While Snoop is one of many celebrities to join the movement and donated water and funds, not many have taken the time to sit down and talk to officials.

The veteran MC from Long Beach acknowledged that many may suspect that he has no real ties to the Michigan city, but Snoop felt differently.

“Somebody said, ‘Well, you don’t have any ties to Flint; what made you come here?'” Weaver said when speaking to MLive. “He said, ‘We do have ties. We’re people.'”

Snoop going the extra mile to become more informed really made a good impression on the mayor, who feels that he’ll be involved for the long haul.

“What I appreciated is he wanted to get a thorough understanding about how long this has been going on and what’s been happening,” Weaver said. “He came and just wanted to sit down and talk about what’s been going on in Flint.”

“I have a lot of information to take back to my celebrity friends and people around the world who want to help, but mainly we’d like the governor to step up and do what’s necessary to make sure Flint is taken care of,” Snoop said when speaking of what he could do to help, according to ClickedOnDetroit.

Having celebrities use their influence to bring light to an issue is a wonderful thing. But when they take their investments a step further than their check books and spend their own time better understanding situations it’s better for everyone involved.
