At least 22 states currently have some form of “Stand Your Ground” legislation on the books. The American Baptist Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference is the latest group to protest the controversial form of legislation.

Their petition has just a few signatures, but it is sure the gain momentum.

From Change.org:

The Stand Your Ground law is a law that has been recently used several times to cover injustices against Black life. We do not need this law to allow injustices like Trayvon Martin, Jordan Davis, Grant Oscar III and others to occur in Tennessee. Bill Haslam has never responded to any my concerns; hopefully this petition will push politicians to care. We must solve violence with love.

The petition is addressed to Bill Haslam,Tennessee’s governor. With the petition, the group hopes to call citizens to action in the effort to repeal the state’s “Stand Your Ground” law.

The law allows gun owners to use deadly force if they believe they are in danger of serious injury or death. The threat has to occur in areas surrounding your home, a structure on your property with a roof, in your residence or vehicle.
