Stop and Frisk Lawsuit Called the ‘Trial of the Century’
The Center for Constitutional Rights is calling their upcoming battle with the City of New York over the Stop and Frisk Policy “the trial of the century.”
Their hoping the suit will result in an end to the controversial policy.
The trial begins March 18th.
Noting that blacks and Latinos were 87 percent of those stopped in 2011 and 2012, though they made up only 53 percent of the city’s population, Vince Warren, executive director of the center, says that the policy is discriminatory. His organization brought the lawsuit on behalf of anyone who has been illegally stopped by police in New York in violation of the Fourth and 14th amendments.
