A new Cheerios ad featuring a white same-sex couple with an adopted black child has received relatively positive reviews.

Over the past few years, General Mills has positioned itself as celebrators of diversity–especially when it comes to LGBT and interracial pride. The corporation has outwardly opposed Minnesota’s proposed gay marriage ban and has released ads featuring an interracial family in the past.

Despite previous ads that showed diverse families garnering negative feedback, the brand continues to advocate for representing all types of families. 

Despite racist backlash from first ad, Cheerios releases Super Bowl ad featuring mixed-raced family

In the brand’s first-ever Super Bowl ad, Cheerios will feature a mixed-raced family. General Mills is portraying the same mixed-race family that drew criticism on its Youtube channel last May.

The first commercial, which featured a black father, white mother and biracial daughter, sparked such horrific comments that the manufacturer had to disable the comments. The clip garnered over 5 million views.

But it hasn’t stopped the brand from featuring the family.

In an effort to unify Republicans with members of the Tea Party, a Michigan congressman expressed his views on traditional marriage, further isolating those in same-sex relationships. 

During the Berrien County Republican Party Holiday Reception on Thursday, former state rep and Michigan national GOP committeeman Dave Agema encouraged members of both parties to unite against same-sex rights.

Usher’s Son Nearly Drowns in Swimming Pool; Ex-Wife Files for Emergency Custody

R&B singer Usher’s son nearly drowned after his arm became stuck in a swimming pool’s drain.

Initially, the boy’s aunt – as well as Usher’s housekeeper – were unable to pull him out.

 

Responding to their cries for help, two men installing sound in Usher’s downtown Atlanta home ran to the scene and were able to save five-year-old Usher Raymond V.
