Police Sgt. Fired For Bringing Trayvon Martin Targets to Gun Range

A Florida police officer has been fired after bringing Trayvon Martin targets to a gun range.

On April 4th, Sgt. Ron King was leading target practice with a few other officers when he pulled out the targets.

The group of officers declined King’s offer to use the targets for practice.

The image of someone wearing a dark hoodie with a drink can and a bag of Skittles candy in their hand has become a well-known symbol in the death of 17-year-old Martin. The unarmed teen was shot and killed in Sanford last year.

Oscar Grant Film ‘Fruitvale’ Gets July Release Date

“Fruitvale,” the buzz-about film chronicling the final days of police shooting victim Oscar Grant, has had its release date bumped up by three months.

It will now hit theaters on July 26th. The film has garnered rave reviews since premiering at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.

Grant was shot and killed by a BART police officer in East Oakland after being removed from a train on New Years Day 2009. Cell phone cameras captured his execution, and the video spread like wildfire, creating a firestorm of controversy.

45 Years Ago Today, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Was Assassinated

45 years ago today, Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated as he stood on the balcony of the Lorraine Hotel in Memphis, TN.

King had gone to Memphis to show support for the black sanitary employees who were striking for fairer wages.

The night before, King had delivered his famed “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” speech.

Daughter of Mother Whose Baby Was Killed Says Mom May Have Killed Him for Life Insurance Money

The daughter of Sherry West, the Georgia mother whose 13 month-old was killed, says her mother may have pulled the trigger.

21 year-old Ashley Glassey says West lost custody of her at the age of 8, and that they’d recently reconnected and speak regularly.

The night her little brother Antonio was killed, Glassey says West was already asking her about collecting life insurance money, and that her story has changed.

Two Teens Accused of Murdering 13 Month-Old Baby Will Be Tried as Adults

According to USA Today, the two Georgia teens accused of killing 13-month old Antonio Santiago and shooting his mother in the leg will be tried as adults.

The baby’s mother Sherry West says she was pushing her baby in a stroller when 17-year-old De’Marquise Elkins and 15-year-old Dominique Lang approached her demanding money. When she did not comply, Elkins pulled out a gun and shot West in the arm and her baby in the face.

Elkins is also being charged with a robbery and shooting that occurred 10 days prior to the slaying of Santiago.

George Zimmerman’s Brother Compares Trayvon Martin to Alleged Baby-Killer De’Marquise Elkins

Robert Zimmerman, George Zimmerman’s brother, went on a tirade on twitter this weekend, linking Trayvon Martin with De’Marquis Elkins, the 17 year-old accused of shooting an infant in Georgia.

He tweeted a photo comparison of both Martin and Elkins holding up their middle fingers. He wrote “A picture speaks a thousand words…Any questions?”

He later tweeted: “Teen to West: “Do you want me to shoot your baby?” #TrayvonMartin to #GeorgeZimmerman: You’re gonna die tonight Motherf**ker.”

Two Young Boys Shoot Baby in Stroller, Mother Says

SWAT teams in Brunswick, Georgia are searching door-to-door for two boys – 10 and 15 years-old – accused of killing a 13 month-old boy, and wounding his mother.

The baby’s mother – Sherry West – says she was pushing her baby Antonio in a stroller when the two boys appeared.

They demanded money; when she said she had none, they shot her baby in the head and wounded her leg.
