Teen playing “Knockout” game shot twice by victim
17-year-old Marvell Weaver is recovering after getting shot twice by a man who he tried to assault. In May, the Michigan teenager was playing Knockout, a game where the assailant attacks an unsuspecting person by sucker punching them in hopes of knocking them out with one blow.
Weaver decided to play with a stun gun.
But Weaver, who said he’d played the game about six or seven other times, didn’t anticipate what would happen next. The intended victim, a 28-year-old father who was waiting for his 6-year-old daughter to get dropped off from school at a bus stop, had a gun on him.
“I saw the van circle twice, and the second time three kids came out. I didn’t suspect anything. I hadn’t any enemies, or any reason to believe they would be looking to do anything to me,” the victim, who chose to remain anonymous, told WILX.
According to Michigan Live, Weaver approached the victim and turned, pressing the stun gun into the victim’s side repeatedly. The weapon misfired, and Weaver turned to flee.
The victim thought he had been stabbed, drew his weapon and fired two shots, striking Weaver in the buttocks.
The victim ‘s weapon was a legally concealed weapon. Weaver survived the shooting and was sentenced to a year in jail for the attack.
The game is catching on quickly, with reported incidents taking place in St. Louis, New York and Philly. In September, 3 teens were charged with the death of Ralph Santiago, a homeless man who fell victim to the game.
Sounds like this kid got off easy.
Hopefully the repercussions he endured will serve as an example for teens that “Knockout” is a game not to be played.
