Had he lived, Trayvon Martin would have turned 18 today.

Trayvon was gunned down on February 26 of last year by George Zimmerman in Sanford, Florida. Trayvon had gone purchase candy for his younger brother and was walking home when he was confronted and shot in the chest by Zimmerman.

As we remember Trayvon’s life today, it is important that we also work to honor his memory by ensuring justice is served and that we learn the names of countless other black youth who have died of similarly violent circumstances.

Our thoughts are with Trayvon’s friends and family.

What have we learned since Trayvon’s death? What’s changed?

Have we done anything to make sure that black youth are protected?
