A video showing a mentally ill man being physically attacked by a group of teenagers has gone viral.
The video, which has been circulating around YouTube, sparked outrage in the form of a Twitter campaign, #JusticeforCoran, created in hopes of raising awareness of the crime.
“Harmless man, doesn’t know any better, mentally challenged and over 20 years old getting bullied by teens,” said one Twitter user who shared some of the images from the video.
“This is the world we live in, bullying a mentally challenged person is funny to them but if it was their brother they wouldn’t do that.” A user also shared the video on YouTube showing a group of teenagers beating up on a man that has been identified as Coran.
YouTube deleted the original video so I did what I can do. This [expletive] is so [expletive] up. Wake up, this is the world we live in. And when you grow up and have children, it will only be worse,” the user said.
Twitter users shared the video, along with images to try to raise awareness about what happened. “Just watched the videos of that mentally challenged man getting beat up and I cannot stop crying, worst thing I’ve seen,” said one, using the hashtag #justiceforcoran.”
Coran, 27, suffers from Williams Syndrome, a neurodevelopmental disorder.
The attacks took place at the Harbor Club Apartment complex in Newark, Delaware and in a wooded area behind the YMCA.
The teens are believed to be between the ages of 14 and 15. Police are investigating.
