Update: body of missing D.C. girl’s kidnapper found
Police in Washington, D.C. say they have identified the body of a man found in a park as that of a murder suspect believed to be the kidnapper of an 8-year-old girl.
Relisha Rudd has been missing since February.
Police announced Tuesday morning that the man found dead Monday with an apparent gunshot wound was identified as 51-year-old Kahlil Tatum. Chief Cathy Lanier says his death appears to be a suicide.
Tatum was a janitor at the homeless shelter where Relisha Rudd lived with her family.
Rudd was last seen with Tatum on March 1, and police say he purchased large trash bags. After Tatum’s wife was found dead, he was charged with murder.
Earlier this week, Washington D.C. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier said that the search for Rudd has turned into a “recovery mission,” signaling that authorities do not believe that she is alive.
Anyone with information on Relisha Tenau Rudd’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Metropolitan Police Department at 202-727-9099, Youth Investigations Division at 202-576-6768, or 911.
