A New Hampshire police commissioner has resigned after using a racial slur while talking about President Obama.

Robert Copeland had previously refused to apologize or resign over the remarks, which were overheard by a resident of the New Hampshire town of Wolfeboro.

From Huffington Post:

“I believe I did use the ‘N’ word in reference to the current occupant of the Whitehouse,” Copeland’s email said, according to the AP. “For this, I do not apologize — he meets and exceeds my criteria for such.”

Political leaders and residents of Wolfeboro had called on Copeland to resign. Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney also spoke out against “the vile epithet.”
