A suburban Detroit homeowner charged with fatally shooting 19-year-old Renisha McBride on his front porch has been arraigned. Ted Wafer made an appearance in court Friday. The 54-year-old faces second-degree murder, manslaughter and felony firearm charges in the teen’s death.

From My Fox Detroit:

Wafer’s bond was set at $250,000, and a preliminary examination was set for Dec. 18. He said “yes” in response to the judge’s questions. Wafer posted bail later that day. Wafer’s lawyer, Mack Carpenter, says his “client has a very strong defense.”

McBride was shot in the face after being involved in a car wreck in nearby Detroit.  Family members say she likely approached McBride’s Dearborn Heights home for help on Nov. 2.

An autopsy report revealed that McBride had marijuana and alcohol in her system at the time of her death. Because the incident occured on Wafer’s property, there is a strong chance that he can claim “Stand Your Ground” immunity.

Should Wafer be allowed to remain free until his trial?
