On this day in 1968, the world lost a minister, a comforter, an activist, a hero. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was shot to death while standing on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. The question of what the world would be like if King lived a little longer has lingered in the minds of many. We can only have a glimpse of what Dr. King would think of today’s society through his words and actions that came before many of us were even born.

The day before King’s death, he gave a speech at the Mason Temple in Memphis. In memory of Dr. King, here’s a video of that speech, which would be King’s last.
