The metaphorical dust has settled in Flint, MI following a water crisis that led to possible lead poisoning of tens of thousands of residents and it’s time for lawsuits to make some headway. Unfortunately, one of the first suits that was brought to court ended in tragedy.

Sasha Avonna Bell, a woman who claimed her 1-year-old son suffers from the effects of lead poisoning, was recently found murdered in a Flint townhouse on Ridgecrest Drive, according to Daily Mail. She was found shot to death along with another victim, Sacorya Renee Reed, and an unidentified 1-year-old.

Bell’s case was reportedly one of 64 lawsuits held against government officials and six companies that were filed on behalf of 144 children. New York-based law firm Levy Koningsberg is handling all of these cases.

“Sasha was a lovely young woman who cared deeply for her family, and especially for her young child,”Corey M. Stern said to MLive. “Her tragic and senseless death has created a void in the lives of so many people that loved her. Hopefully, her child will be lifted up by the love and support from everyone who cared deeply for Sasha.”

While there are currently dozens of lawsuits, Bell’s case was reportedly a keystone to many of those moving forward. Local police stated that they have a suspect in custody, while no charges have been filed.
