Worldstar Hip Hop Presents: ‘The Field: Violence, Hip Hop & Hope in Chicago’
Worldstar Hip Hop has become a haven for videos that present mostly blacks in an unflattering light.
But despite the site’s reputation, its latest film, “The Field: Violence, Hip Hop & Hope in Chicago”, highlights a very serious issue that continues to plague our communities.
The city of Chicago is a war zone. In 2013, Chicago police recorded 412 homicides in the city. While the murder rate was down somewhat from 2012 (497 murders were tabulated), it’s still too high. The issue of youth violence against the backdrop of Chicago’s conversely vibrant hip-hop scene is explored in a new documentary executive produced by WorldStarHipHop.
The film directed by Mandon Lovett, features interviews with Chicago’s hottest new rappers. King Louie, Lil Bibby, Lil Dirk, Katie Got Bandz and producer Young Chop all appear in the film.
The musicians talk about how they are trying to escape the city’s violence through drill music.
