24-year old transgender woman Cece McDonald must serve her three-year sentence in a male prison.

McDonald, who stabbed a white man who was part of a group that verbally and physical assaulted her, pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges. She will be housed in St. Cloud prison.

Upon sentencing, McDonald, 24, will be taken into custody by the state Department of Corrections and housed as a male “because he is being housed as a male with Hennepin County,” corrections spokeswoman Sarah Russell told the Star Tribune on Monday. “We will intake him as a male at St. Cloud prison.”

Clearly, this puts McDonald’s life in incredible danger.
