The young Montreal-based producer made his official mark on the world on May 6 with the release of his first album 99.9% which is a genre-defying album combining elements of funk, soul, R&B, and dance music into one cohesive project that also brings together many different artists from Goldlink to BADBADNOTGOOD to Craig David.

Post Malone, who gained quick popularity due to his songs “White Iverson” and “Go Flex”, is making quite the splash in the music industry with his acoustic rap freshman mixtape August 26th, which has got some amazing collaborations, and features on it like 2 Chainz, Lil Yachty, and Jaden Smith.

Coloring Book, Chance the Rapper (May 12)
Are you even surprised that Chance the Rapper is on this list? I mean, with every album he gets better and better from 10 Day to now, he has grown as an artist, and you can tell listening to the production variations, but also this sounds like a full album (…as in I would have paid for it, Chance.) Anyway, this “mixtape” is as comprehensive as we wanted, and Chance takes his throne as the King of Openers.

Our last pick for our “5 Best Albums & Mixtapes Released in May” list hails from New Jersey, from a rapper named Hanz, who released his debut EP “Grey Matter” which you can now download via Soundcloud. Another multi-genre creation, this EP fuses together hip-hop, rock, and punk influences to create a widespread piece that discusses materialism, addiction, and power hungriness with the help of the LVN Art collective.
