Like many multi-billion dollar companies, Twitter’s executive board in particular, wasn’t quite known for its diversity. But, with their latest addition, it looks like they’re trying to head in a new direction.

It was recently announced that Debra Lee, CEO and Chairwoman for BET for a decade, is now a member of Twitter’s board of directors, according to Forbes. This is reportedly just the latest in a series of changes the social media company has undergone since CEO Jack Dorsey took over.

Lee confirmed the news on her Twitter account in an initial tweet and then in multiple thank you’s to congratulations from supporters.

Hopefully this move goes on to be the first in a wave of decisions that welcome a broader, more representative pool of candidates in positions in some of the world’s most successful industries.
