Bullet Intended for Alleged Gang Member Strikes 9 Year-Old
A 9 year-old is in critical condition after being struck by a bullet while driving in a car with his mother, Tanisha Hilliard.
Police say the intended target was Hilliard’s boyfriend, whom they allege is a “known gang member.”
However, Hilliard steadfastly denies this.
Hillard was driving a car with the boy in the back seat and her boyfriend in the front passenger seat when shots were fired at the car about 5:30 p.m. in the 6700 block of South Evans Avenue, according to police.
One of the bullets hit the boy in the chest. Soon after, the boyfriend took off from the car and left Hillard to drive her son to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.
Hilliard said she was at the hospital all night but that her son was stable at the hospital Thursday morning.
A senseless, tragic situation.
Here’s hoping this little boy pulls through and has a speedy recovery.
