Donald Glover Cast As Lando Calrissian In New ‘Star Wars’
Donald Glover’s long been waving his flag for black nerds. He even took time to break down his personal definition of what it means to be a nerd in his 2012 stand-up special, Weirdo. So it’s no surprise that his latest role is a dream come true for many of his fans.
The actor/rapper/singer was cast as none other than Lando Calrissian, by way of Cloud City, in the upcoming Han Solo spinoff Star Wars film. Confirming rumors that have circulated for months.

Following years of fans campaigning for Glover to portray Spider-Man, then being part of the inspiration for an actual Spider-Man and a long list of other nerdy accomplishments, the Atlanta creator will get to play one of the pillars of black nerdom.
“We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us,” said directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. “These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”
The still untitled film is set for a 2018 release. Maybe we’ll get a Billy Dee Williams blessing before then.
