17 year-old Olympic champion Gabby Douglas is back in the gym training, after a whirlwind year of media appearances and projects.

She’ll be training in a gym in West Des Moines, Iowa with her coach Liang Chow.

They’re aiming for a return to competition next year.

From USA Today:

“She’s excited to get her feet back on the floor,” Chow said. “The goal is to see where we’re at, and also we have to see that her physical conditioning is up to the challenges before we even talk about new competitive goals.”

Douglas overcame an injury suffered on the vault, and some shakiness on the beam, to win individual all-around at the U.S. Olympic Trials in San Jose, Calif. She somehow managed to top that performance in London, becoming the first American to capture individual all-around and team gold in one Olympics.

She said then that she wanted to return to her sport at some point, but the timing was always left open. Douglas has authored two books, received numerous endorsement opportunities, and has become an in-demand celebrity at a host of awards shows and sporting events.
