Hanif Willis-Abdurraqib Delivers Touching Poem On Black Death
Writer, poet and cultural critic critic Hanif Willis-Abdurraqib’s debut book The Crown Aint Worth Much will officially be released on July 19th. Whether it be from any of the many worlds he plays a role in, many people are familiar with Willis-Abdurraqib’s work.
“Hanif Abdurraqib is everyone’s favorite poet right now” said William Evans, another Columbus, OH poet.
But for those who aren’t familiar with the poet, his piece entitled “The Crown Aint Worth Much,” named after his book, is a touching examination of the circumstances surrounding black death from all avenues.
“I say a black boy’s name in a poem, and the black boy already begins to disappear from head-to-toe,” said Willis-Abdurraqib.
The poet’s words may bring on a variety of reactions with every new listen. So feel free to watch his performance of it multiple times below.
