James Avery autopsy reveals star had a series of medical problems
Actor James Avery had a series of medical issues that contributed to his passing. The findings come as a result of an autopsy conducted on the star who played Uncle Phil on the hit 90s sitcom “Fresh Prince of Bel Air.”
Avery died from complications following open heart surgery on Dec. 31.
We’ve obtained the death certificate, filed in L.A., which shows the 68-year-old suffered from severe coronary heart disease — along with end-stage kidney disease and type-2 diabetes. Avery’s official cause of death is listed as cardiorespiratory arrest — which basically means his heart stopped.
Avery passed away in a Glendale, CA hospital about 7 weeks after undergoing bypass surgery. The star has suffered a heart attack before the procedure. According to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, heart disease is the leading cause of death for African Americans.
Blacks also suffer from complications due to diabetes at alarming rates, with 4.9 million or 18.7 percent of the population living with the illness, according to the American Diabetes Association.
