The trial of Michael Slager is reportedly coming to a close as The Washington Post reports he will plead guilty in court for shooting Walter Scott in the back.

In April 2015, Slager, then a South Carolina police officer, pulled over an unarmed Scott. Scott fled, and a nearby citizen recorded Slager shoot him dead as he ran away. Up until now, Slager has testified that he feared for his life after Scott allegedly took his taser from him.

While the footage of Scott’s murder was shocking and viewed by millions of people, the jury in Slager’s first state trial couldn’t come to a ruling in what many felt should have been an open-and-shut case.

Slager’s guilty plea is expected to come on Tuesday afternoon. Legal analysts suspect that Slager is taking the plea deal to avoid facing another trial on the state level and the government is looking to get a conviction at ay cost.
