Missouri police taser father as he tries to save son from fire
The father of a 3-year-old boy killed in a Louisiana, Mo., fire is recovering after police tasered him for trying to save his stepson.
Riley Miller died on Thursday after his family’s home caught on fire.
The Missouri State Fire Marshal is continuing its investigation of the incident.
A city police officer stunned Riley’s stepfather Ryan Miller with a Taser gun three times as he tried to enter the burning house. Ryan Miller suffered burns to his chest. Cathy Miller suffered a burn to the cornea in one of her eyes. Both were released from the hospital Thursday night. “He tried to get back in the house to get the baby,” Lori Miller said. “They took my son to jail because he tried to save his son.”
The fire started in a recreation room in the home as the parents fell asleep watching television. Riley slept in his room. Both Ryan and Cathy were able to reach a rear door and exit the home after the smoke woke them up.
The Millers ran around to the front of the building with police showing up just as Ryan Miller kicked the front door in, attempting to save his son. The cause of the fire is unknown.
